Algiers – The National People’s Assembly (APN) has reiterated its commitment to promoting the Amazigh language and culture, reinforcing its institutional support for this vital component of Algerian identity. This reaffirmation came as the Speaker of the APN, Brahim Boughali, oversaw the departure of a delegation traveling to celebrate the national Amazigh New Year, Yennayer 2976.
Speaking to the press at Houari Boumediene Airport, Speaker Boughali emphasized that the APN will integrate the Amazigh language into its activities, communication strategies, and cultural programs. This initiative aims to solidify the language’s presence within the parliamentary sphere and to enhance the legislative body’s engagement with the diverse elements of Algerian heritage.
Boughali highlighted that the celebration of Yennayer reflects the deep-rooted significance of the Amazigh language in the national consciousness. He asserted that promoting the language embodies the sincere political will of the state, under the leadership of President Abdelmadjid Tebboune, to safeguard Algeria’s cultural and linguistic diversity.
The Speaker also commended the ongoing efforts of the High Commission for Amazighity (HCA) in serving the Amazigh language and culture. He expressed appreciation for all the creators and researchers who contribute to enriching the national cultural landscape and preserving the nation’s historical memory.
The send-off ceremony was attended by the Speaker of the Council of the Nation, Azzouz Nasseri, the Secretary-General of the HCA, Hachemi Assad, and the President of the National Commission for the Protection and Promotion of Childhood, Meriem Cherfi.
The national event, steeped in cultural and identity significance, includes the sixth edition of the President of the Republic’s Prize for Amazigh Literature and Language. This initiative aims to encourage creativity and solidify the position of the Amazigh language within the national cultural space, underscoring the state’s commitment to protecting and valuing all aspects of Algerian identity.
