Iran Imposes Internet Shutdown Amidst Rising Tensions

Iran has reportedly implemented a nationwide internet shutdown, according to the Ministry of Communications, a decision attributed to security concerns. This action coincides with heightened internal tensions and reported unrest across the country. The National Security Council has affirmed its commitment to confronting what it describes as ‘sabotage operations,’ emphasizing the importance of national unity in thwarting such activities.

Reports indicate a complete disruption of internet connectivity throughout Iran. This blackout follows a series of digital restrictions targeting protesters, raising concerns about freedom of communication during a critical period. The National Security Council has stated that security forces and the judiciary will not show leniency towards ‘saboteurs’.

The National Security Council further alleged that stances taken by former US President Trump indicate coordination with Israel to undermine Iran’s security. Reports have emerged of casualties amidst the unrest, including the death of a prosecutor in Esfarayen, eastern Iran. Two Iranian security personnel were also reportedly killed in Tehran during recent protests.

Conflicting reports have surfaced regarding the total number of casualties and arrests. While one source suggests a significant number of deaths and injuries, along with over 2,270 arrests, another indicates a high number of injured police officers and Basij militia members.

Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei has vowed to take action against those he described as ‘rioters’ seeking to appease foreign powers by damaging public property. He accused them of destroying their own streets to please the leader of another country, asserting that Iran will not tolerate ‘mercenaries’ working for foreign interests. Khamenei further stated that America’s hands were stained with the blood of thousands of Iranians and called on the US President to focus on his own country’s problems, while urging the Iranian people to maintain unity.
