Aquaculture Product Marketing Platform Launch Imminent

DZWatch has learned that a new platform designed to market aquaculture products is slated for imminent launch. This initiative aims to bolster the aquaculture sector and streamline the marketing processes for its diverse offerings.

The Director-General of Fisheries and Aquaculture, Miloud Triaa, announced the forthcoming platform following a coordination meeting with senior officials from the Directorate-General and representatives from the National Livestock Feed Office. The meeting focused on preparations for the launch of the digital platform, which will specifically target the marketing of both marine and freshwater aquaculture products.

Initial efforts will concentrate on key species such as Gilthead Seabream (Daurade), European Seabass (Loup de mer), and Red Tilapia. The development of this digital platform responds to existing challenges in marketing certain aquaculture products. These challenges have consistently hindered production expansion, particularly for smaller producers and farmers engaged in integrated aquaculture practices.

To address these concerns, a public company affiliated with the fisheries and aquaculture sector, a subsidiary of the National Livestock Feed Office, has been established. This move is part of a broader strategy to create sustainable solutions for marketing obstacles. The National Office has already commenced marketing aquaculture products through its retail outlets, implementing an agreement with the Algerian Chamber of Fisheries and Aquaculture.

This digital platform is the first of its kind, creating a national database of marine and freshwater aquaculture producers. It will allow producers facing marketing difficulties to register their available quantities, facilitating marketing through the designated company. Aquaculture product processors can also register and specify their areas of operation, ensuring direct connections with producers and retail outlets.

The platform will enable the mapping of production schedules and quantities for each producer and species. It will also generate precise statistics on the number of producers and the overall national production volume. This advancement simplifies the implementation of existing incentive mechanisms, particularly those aimed at Red Tilapia producers. Producers currently receive a subsidy of 50 dinars per kilogram produced. The platform also ensures the involvement of the Algerian Chamber of Fisheries and Aquaculture in monitoring relevant data, acting as the professional representative for producers.
