Former Nasri Hussein Dey coach, Mustapha Biskri, has weighed in on the Algerian national team’s quarter-final exit from the Africa Cup of Nations, citing a series of errors made by the ‘Fennecs’ during their match against Nigeria.
Speaking on DZWatch’s ‘DZ CAN’ program, Biskri acknowledged the team’s potential but highlighted individual lapses that proved costly at crucial moments. He specifically pointed to left-back Rayan Ait-Nouri, stating that while the player possesses considerable technical ability, he tends to over-dribble in all areas of the pitch, including his own defensive zone, which poses a significant risk to the team.
“The first goal conceded against Nigeria was, in my opinion, 80 percent due to an individual error by Ait-Nouri,” Biskri asserted. “Such mistakes in high-stakes matches are decisive and unforgivable.”
Biskri emphasized the need for correcting these seemingly minor details, coupled with improved tactical discipline, as the key to the national team’s resurgence in future competitions. “Addressing these issues will be crucial for Algeria’s success moving forward,” he noted. “The talent is there, but the focus and execution must improve.”
He concluded by saying that a strong return to form hinges on ironing out these imperfections and maintaining strict tactical adherence. This, he believes, will pave the way for a successful future for the national team.
