President Abdelmadjid Tebboune has issued an appeal to young Algerians residing abroad, particularly those in vulnerable or irregular situations. He affirmed the state’s commitment to regularizing their status, provided they pledge to refrain from engaging in previous risky behaviors.
The President highlighted concerns regarding the exploitation of some Algerian youth by criminal networks or for political purposes outside the country. He cautioned against such practices, emphasizing the damage they inflict on both the individuals involved and the reputation of Algeria.
According to the President’s office, Algerian consular services abroad will oversee the implementation of these measures. However, individuals involved in serious crimes, such as terrorism, drug trafficking, arms dealing, or collaboration with foreign entities against Algeria, will be excluded from this initiative.
DZWatch understands that this appeal is part of a broader strategy to support Algerian citizens abroad and safeguard them from potential exploitation. The government hopes that this initiative will encourage young Algerians to return home and contribute to the nation’s development.
This move reflects the government’s ongoing efforts to address the challenges faced by Algerian youth both at home and abroad. It remains to be seen how many will respond to the President’s call and what impact this initiative will have on the lives of those it aims to assist.
The announcement follows a recent cabinet meeting where issues related to Algerians living overseas were discussed at length.
