President Abdelmadjid Tebboune presided over a Council of Ministers meeting today, addressing critical sectors including digitalization, agriculture, and crop production. The meeting centered on the progress of national digitalization efforts, the 2026 roadmap for the agricultural sector, and preparations for the 2025-2026 planting season.
Following the presentation of the agenda and a review of the government’s activities over the past two weeks by the Prime Minister, President Tebboune issued directives pertaining to each area.
Regarding the progress of digitalization, the President commended the significant advancements made in digitizing information and data across various sectors. He highlighted the importance of connecting and analyzing this data to identify shortcomings and implement timely solutions. President Tebboune instructed all government members to establish technical teams within their respective departments, dedicated to the daily updating of data within the national digital database. This will ensure accurate and timely information for all relevant stakeholders.
Concerning the agricultural sector’s 2026 roadmap, the President emphasized the continued organization of the sector and the prioritization of increasing per-hectare yields. He directed the government to allocate resources and create favorable conditions to boost cereal production, reflecting the commitment to modernizing this strategic sector. President Tebboune stressed the need for scientific approaches in all stages of agriculture, guided by a comprehensive strategy involving experts and agricultural engineers, while considering seed quality and regional specificities. He also called for a review of the agricultural guidance law, including mechanisms for organizing and regulating agricultural production. The President advocated for reducing imports without creating market shortages by encouraging specialized cooperatives, supported by ongoing state incentives. He instructed the Minister of Agriculture to find immediate solutions to revitalize red and white meat production to meet national market demands, involving producers and breeders in the process. Reaffirming the principle that land belongs to those who cultivate it, President Tebboune reiterated the state’s commitment to resolving land tenure issues for active participants in the agricultural sector to achieve optimal production levels.
