LFP Announces Key Rule Changes for League’s Second Phase

The Algerian Professional Football League (LFP) has announced a series of new regulatory decisions impacting the remainder of the current football season. These changes aim to streamline procedures and ensure consistent application of rules across all teams in the professional league.

A key decision involves the resetting of yellow card accumulation. The LFP stated that all yellow cards accumulated by players up to Matchday 15 will be cleared, provided the player has not received more than three cautions. However, any player who reached four yellow cards by Matchday 15 must still serve an automatic one-match suspension.

Furthermore, yellow cards received from the Round of 16 matches of the Algerian Cup onwards will be counted towards the second phase’s yellow card tally. This is in accordance with directive number 64, dated November 27, 2025, concerning the conditions for the Algerian Football Federation’s second registration period.

The LFP also clarified that the calculation of performance bonuses for the second phase will commence with the Round of 16 matches of the Algerian Cup and continue until the final match of the season.

New players will be eligible to participate in the Round of 16 of the Algerian Cup and subsequent official matches this season. The LFP emphasized that any player registered on the team sheet for the Round of 16 of the Algerian Cup, the Super Cup final, or any match in the second phase, will not be permitted to transfer to another team within Algeria during the same period.

These decisions are part of the LFP’s ongoing efforts to guarantee fair competition and adherence to the regulations governing the current football season. The LFP aims to maintain the integrity of the league.
