The Ministry of Tourism and Traditional Industry will host the National Crafts Award ceremony this Thursday, marking its 22nd edition. The event celebrates and promotes Algeria’s rich cultural heritage and authentic cultural identity.
According to a ministry statement, this annual event, held under the auspices of the Minister of Tourism and Traditional Industry, aims to foster a culture of excellence and creativity. It underscores the sector’s commitment to protecting and developing the national craft heritage, encouraging talent and skills in traditional industries, and bolstering their competitiveness through knowledge development, skill enhancement, innovation, and improved product quality.
The award is part of a national strategy to develop the traditional crafts sector, enhance its competitiveness nationally and internationally, contribute to local economic diversification, and support domestic tourism while highlighting Algeria’s cultural and historical significance.
This year’s edition saw broad participation, with over 620 artisans from across the country submitting 674 craft products. Of these, 303 artisans with 353 products qualified for the regional selection phase.
The national award committee, comprising representatives from various partner sectors, specialized experts, and experienced master artisans, oversaw the selection process. This ensured a participatory approach and an objective evaluation based on quality and professionalism, facilitated through regional selection meetings.
The selection process culminated in the selection of seven winning products for the National Crafts Award 2025, representing diverse craft specialties.
The ceremony will conclude with a special celebration honoring the winning artisans, chosen based on rigorous and uniform criteria ensuring transparency and equal opportunity. These criteria included design quality, execution precision, mastery of technical skills, raw material quality, respect for traditional usage, and the valorization of innovation rooted in reliable historical and heritage references.
The event promises to be a significant occasion for recognizing and celebrating the vibrant world of Algerian crafts.
