Algiers – The Algerian Football Federation (FAF) has officially filed complaints with both the Confederation of African Football (CAF) and FIFA following Algeria’s exit from the quarter-finals of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations. The FAF asserts that questionable refereeing decisions have severely damaged the reputation of African football.
In a statement addressed to supporters of the national team, “Les Verts,” the FAF emphasized the importance of unity and support during this period of rebuilding and preparation for upcoming competitions. While acknowledging the outcome of the match, the Federation expressed profound discontent with the refereeing, stating that the decisions raised serious concerns and sparked outrage among fans and observers alike.
According to the statement, the FAF believes the refereeing compromised the integrity of African officiating and dealt a blow to the image of football on the continent at the international level. DZWatch understands that the complaint requests a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding the match and calls for appropriate action to be taken in accordance with established rules and regulations.
The FAF emphasized that this action is not solely aimed at defending the rights of the Algerian national team, but also at safeguarding the integrity of African competitions and preserving the reputation of refereeing on the continent. The Federation hopes that this will serve the future of African football and bolster the confidence of teams and fans in its institutions.
On a technical level, the FAF commended the commitment and dedication demonstrated by the players and coaching staff throughout the tournament. Despite the disappointing conclusion, the Federation views the participation as an opportunity to learn valuable lessons and strengthen preparations for future events, particularly the upcoming international commitments in the coming months.
Concluding its statement, the Algerian Football Federation reiterated its complete faith in the current team and coaching staff, pledging to continue allocating all available human, technical, and organizational resources to support their endeavors.
