Born in Marseille on August 12, 1953, Roland Courbis built a notable career both as a player and a coach. He began his playing career as a defender, representing clubs such as Marseille, Ajaccio, Olympiacos (Greece), Sochaux, Monaco, and Toulon. He later transitioned into coaching, earning a reputation for his strong personality, outspokenness, and passionate sideline presence.
As a coach, Courbis managed several prominent clubs, including Toulon, Bordeaux, Toulouse, Lens, Ajaccio, and Marseille. He also had international stints with Al Wahda (UAE) and Alania Vladikavkaz (Russia). He is particularly remembered for his time with Montpellier between 2007 and 2009.
