Opel Chooses Algeria as New Manufacturing Hub Outside Europe

Algiers – Opel has announced its selection of Algeria as a new industrial production site outside of Europe. This strategic move signifies the company’s ambition to expand its operations in the Middle East and Africa region, reinforcing its presence in emerging markets.

CEO Florian Huettl revealed in a LinkedIn post that this decision marks a pivotal moment in Opel’s international expansion. He emphasized the company’s commitment to long-term investment and sustainable growth in markets with promising potential.

According to Huettl, Algeria has garnered particular attention over the past two years, attributable to the development of industrial partnerships and a favorable investment climate. These factors led to the decision to establish a new production unit designed to meet local market needs while also supporting the group’s European manufacturing network.

Opel’s management team recently held a working session in Algeria, attended by the Executive Director of Operations for the Middle East and Africa. Discussions focused on developing the new industrial site and exploring the integration of additional Opel models within the national industrial framework.

This project aligns with Stellantis’ broader strategy to bolster local production, increase industrial integration rates, and promote sustainable investment, all to benefit customers and partners while supporting the development of the automotive industry in Algeria.

Opel affirmed its commitment to maintaining German quality and engineering standards while embracing local manufacturing in Algeria. The company believes this step will solidify the country’s position as a regional industrial hub in the automotive sector, unlocking new opportunities for growth and industrial cooperation in the coming period.
