Algeria Hosts International Quran Recitation Competition

Algiers, Algeria – Algeria has officially inaugurated the International Quran Recitation Competition, marking its 21st edition. The opening ceremony, held Monday evening at the National Army Club in Beni Messous, was attended by a wide array of government officials, diplomats, and prominent religious figures.

The prestigious event, held under the patronage of the President of the Republic, Abdelmadjid Tebboune, underscores Algeria’s commitment to promoting the memorization and recitation of the Holy Quran.

The opening ceremony was graced by the presence of members of the government, the Dean of the Grand Mosque of Algiers, representatives of national bodies, members of the diplomatic corps, and distinguished scholars and religious personalities. The atmosphere reflected the high esteem in which the Quran is held in Algerian society.

Organizers confirmed that this year’s competition features participants from 52 countries across various continents. Following rigorous preliminary rounds, 20 contestants have qualified for the final stage, highlighting the competition’s growing international reach.

The International Quran Recitation Competition serves as an annual platform demonstrating Algeria’s dedication to encouraging the memorization of the Quran, reinforcing religious values, and fostering cultural and religious exchange among participating nations within a framework of fair competition and mutual respect. This event solidifies Algeria’s role in promoting Islamic scholarship and international cooperation.
