Algiers, Algeria – Minister of Labour, Employment and Social Security, Abdelhak Saihi, met with Halim Hamzaoui, Director of the International Labour Organization (ILO) Office in Algeria, on Tuesday in Algiers to discuss strengthening bilateral cooperation and exploring avenues for partnership development. The focus areas include occupational health and safety, social protection, social dialogue, and employment.
According to a ministry statement, Mr. Hamzaoui expressed his profound appreciation for the strong relationship between Algeria and the ILO. He also commended the level of cooperation with the Ministry of Labour, Employment and Social Security and the efforts made in implementing projects of mutual interest.
Minister Saihi emphasized the sector’s commitment to enhancing social protection for all workers, particularly in occupational health and safety, through specialized bodies. He highlighted the national legislative framework that prohibits child labor and the significant progress made in the field of social protection.
The Minister further elaborated on the far-reaching reforms initiated by the state, reflecting the government’s dedication to social justice and equal opportunities. Algeria is actively expanding social protection to encompass various segments of society, while ensuring a safe and healthy working environment and promoting social dialogue to balance economic development and the protection of rights.
Mr. Hamzaoui lauded Algeria’s efforts in labor, employment, and social protection. He affirmed the ILO’s readiness to support projects aimed at strengthening occupational health and safety and developing social policies. He stressed the importance of ongoing coordination between the Ministry and the ILO office to address economic and social challenges, contributing to social stability and sustainable development. The meeting provided an opportunity to exchange views on prospects for enhanced bilateral cooperation.
