Algiers, Algeria – The Algerian People’s National Army (ANP) has reported significant successes in combating terrorism, organized crime, and illegal migration during operations conducted between January 8th and 13th.
In a series of anti-terrorism operations across the country, ANP detachments apprehended five individuals providing support to terrorist groups. The operations highlight the army’s ongoing commitment to eradicating terrorist networks within Algeria.
Efforts to combat organized crime resulted in the arrest of forty drug traffickers by joint ANP units, working in coordination with security services. Authorities successfully intercepted attempts to smuggle 304 kilograms of processed cannabis across the border with Morocco. Additionally, 34.7 kilograms of cocaine and over 218,000 psychotropic tablets were seized.
Furthermore, in Tamanrasset, Bordj Badji Mokhtar, and Illizi provinces, army units detained 200 individuals involved in illegal gold mining activities. They also confiscated 36 vehicles, 132 generators, 107 jackhammers, and quantities of raw gold ore, stones, and equipment used in the illicit extraction of gold. In separate operations, 12 individuals were arrested, and a FMPK machine gun, three Kalashnikov submachine guns, and four hunting rifles were seized, along with over 33,000 liters of fuel intended for smuggling.
In the fight against illegal immigration, ANP units thwarted several attempts to cross the country’s coastlines, rescuing 71 individuals aboard makeshift vessels. Authorities also apprehended 205 undocumented migrants of various nationalities in operations nationwide. These operations demonstrate the army’s dedication to securing Algeria’s borders and combating transnational crime.
