Algiers – Influencer Marwa Zaalani, known online as “Bebichati,” has been placed in pre-trial detention following an order issued by an investigating judge in Algiers. The decision was made at the Dar El Beida court on Wednesday.
According to sources, the investigation was initiated by high-level security authorities based on technical evidence gathered against the accused. Investigators allege that Zaalani has been in contact with hostile terrorist entities operating abroad.
The investigation reportedly revealed that Zaalani was a co-subscriber to an online account belonging to a fugitive with alleged terror ties. Authorities claim that she communicated with this individual on multiple occasions through messages and voice chats. The content of these communications, which has been withheld, is considered strong technical evidence of the accused’s collaboration with elements engaged in subversive activities targeting national security.
Zaalani faces charges including money laundering and praising terrorist acts. Further charges may be filed as the investigation remains ongoing.
Bebichati, as she is known on TikTok, gained popularity by showcasing and selling women’s clothing on her social media platform. She operates a clothing store in Staouali, Algiers.
