Minister of Interior, Local Authorities, and Transport, Said Saayoud, conducted a surprise inspection visit to the Port of Algiers today. The unscheduled visit allowed the Minister to assess the overall operational status of the port, focusing on container management, unloading procedures, and cargo processing.
According to a statement released by the Ministry, Minister Saayoud examined ongoing efforts to improve the port’s infrastructure and ensure a conducive working environment. He issued several directives aimed at accelerating ongoing construction projects and expediting the processing of both ships and goods.
Following a previous visit to Wharf 08, where he instructed the commencement of geotechnical studies, Minister Saayoud gave immediate instructions to begin construction work. He emphasized the necessity of accelerating the pace of these projects in anticipation of the upcoming summer season.
Minister Saayoud also stressed the importance of prompt removal of containers exceeding their legal storage time within the port by customs declarants. He instructed that this be done through legal channels and in coordination with relevant authorities. He further emphasized the need to expedite the processing and unloading of ships to ensure efficient and well-organized operations.
The Minister ordered the completion of the comprehensive port development plan and the refurbishment of the new promenade area. He highlighted the crucial role of enhancing rail transport to ensure operational efficiency.
Minister Saayoud acknowledged the progress made across all national ports, including a reduction in the number of ships awaiting entry. He urged increased coordination efforts and enhanced operational readiness. He stated that continued improvements are vital for boosting Algeria’s trade capacity. The Minister reiterated the government’s commitment to developing the port as a key economic hub.
