Algiers, January 15, 2026 – A new service has been launched to simplify the process of registering and correcting civil status documents for Algerian citizens born abroad who are currently residing in Algeria.
The Ministries of Foreign Affairs and Interior, Local Authorities, and Transport jointly announced the initiative, which allows eligible citizens to submit requests directly to their local municipalities. This eliminates the need to travel to the Civil Status Department at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Algiers, significantly reducing administrative burdens.
According to a statement released by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, this service is the result of close collaboration between the two ministries, particularly in the areas of data exchange and information connectivity. It aims to improve the quality of services provided to Algerian nationals seeking to obtain, register, or correct their civil status documents.
Initially, the service will be available in municipalities within the Algiers province and in the main municipalities of other provinces across the country. Plans are in place to extend the service to all remaining municipalities nationwide in the near future.
The Ministry’s statement emphasized that this initiative aligns with directives from the highest authorities of the country to enhance efforts towards digitizing and modernizing public services. It also aims to simplify administrative procedures for Algerian citizens, both those residing within the country and abroad, and to bring public administration closer to the people.
This new service represents a significant step forward in improving efficiency and accessibility for Algerian citizens dealing with civil registration matters.
