Rail Line Damage Clarified: Bechar-Gara Djebilet Project

Bechar, December 16, 2025 – The National Agency for Studies and Monitoring of Railway Investments (ANESRIF) has issued a clarification regarding recent reports of damage to the Bechar-Gara Djebilet railway line. The statement follows heavy rainfall in the region over the past two days.

Technical teams from the study offices responsible for monitoring the project inspected sections potentially affected by floodwaters. Videos circulating on social media had suggested damage to a portion of the infrastructure of the Bechar-Tindouf-Gara Djebilet railway line, which is in its final stages of completion.

ANESRIF stated that technical investigations revealed no damage to the first section of the line, extending from Bechar to Hamaguir, nor to the section from Oum El Assel to Gara Djebilet. However, the segment between Hamaguir and Oum El Assel, which is still under construction, sustained minor damage in the form of a water channel on the edge of the embankment platform at kilometer marker 283+500. The agency emphasized that this poses no threat to the stability or durability of the platform, as the slope is primarily designed to protect the track.

The agency further clarified that the affected area, as depicted in the video, is still undergoing leveling work, which extends up to two and a half meters from either side of the track. This work is preparatory to the placement of various layers forming the supporting platform and the construction of a rainwater drainage network to protect the track.

ANESRIF stressed that the area shown in the video is part of the slope, which will be subject to leveling and protection operations, and not part of the supporting platform itself. These specialized works are being carried out in accordance with established technical standards, as detailed in the accompanying plans and diagrams.

The agency concluded by reiterating its commitment to ensuring the integrity and safety of the Bechar-Gara Djebilet railway project.
