Louisa Hanoune, the General Secretary of the Workers’ Party, has welcomed President Abdelmadjid Tebboune’s recent decision to address the situation of Algerian youth living abroad in precarious and irregular circumstances. Hanoune voiced her support during the opening address of the party’s National Council meeting.
Hanoune characterized President Tebboune’s initiative as a crucial step towards “reunification and addressing problems through political, social, and economic solutions.” She emphasized the importance of finding constructive ways to support these young Algerians and facilitate their integration.
Furthermore, Hanoune lauded the proposed new law on political parties, stating that it represents a significant departure in terms of methodology, vision, and political direction. According to her, the new legislation “advances and corrects the path towards consolidating multi-party democracy and includes acceptable controls and standards.” She indicated that the Workers’ Party views the draft law as a positive development for the Algerian political landscape.
The Workers’ Party, Hanoune confirmed, intends to participate in the upcoming elections and aims to secure a larger number of parliamentary seats. The party is committed to engaging in the democratic process and representing the interests of Algerian workers and citizens.
Hanoune also expressed her appreciation for the decisions made in 2025, considering them “economic and social gains.” These include extending maternity leave, increasing the guaranteed minimum wage, raising salaries for employees, and boosting retirement and unemployment benefits, as well as creating more jobs in the health and education sectors.
Finally, she noted that the positive outcome of the National Assembly President Azzouz Nasseri’s meeting with representatives of transport unions was a source of satisfaction for all parties, given the vitality and centrality of this sensitive sector to the nation’s economy.
