Sha’ban 2026: Expected Start Date for Most Islamic Countries

The month of Sha’ban, a blessed period preceding Ramadan, is a time for Muslims to increase their acts of worship and prepare for the holy month. According to astronomical calculations, the crescent moon of Sha’ban will be nearly impossible to sight on the evening of Sunday, January 18, 2026, in most Islamic countries. This is due to the moon setting before the sun on that date.

Consequently, Monday, January 19, 2026, is likely to be the 30th and final day of Rajab. This suggests that the first day of Sha’ban, astronomically, will fall on Tuesday, January 20, 2026.

While a majority of countries are expected to begin Sha’ban on this date, it is possible that some nations may announce Wednesday, January 21, as the first day of the month, depending on the results of their official moon sighting observations.

It is highly recommended during Sha’ban to increase acts of fasting, prayer, and the recitation of the Quran. Giving to charity and spiritually preparing oneself for the arrival of the blessed month of Ramadan are also encouraged. DZWatch will continue to provide updates as the date approaches.
