Severe Cold Snap and Thunderstorms Sweep Across Algeria

Algiers, Algeria – Several regions across Algeria are experiencing a period of severe weather today, marked by a significant cold snap and intense thunderstorms. The National Meteorological Office issued a warning earlier today, indicating that these conditions are expected to persist into tomorrow morning.

Thunderstorms began this afternoon, and are projected to continue until the early hours of Monday. Authorities are cautioning residents about the potential for significant rainfall accumulations, which could lead to localized flooding and transportation disruptions.

The initial weather alert covers the following provinces: Tipaza, Algiers, Boumerdes, Blida, Medea, Ain Defla, Beni Abbes, Timimoun, Adrar, and Tindouf.

A subsequent advisory highlights that intense thunderstorms are expected from midnight tonight until dawn on Monday in the provinces of Jijel, El Tarf, Guelma, Souk Ahras, and Oum El Bouaghi.

In addition to the heavy rainfall, the meteorological services have confirmed that a severe cold wave will continue until dawn on Monday, particularly affecting the provinces of Laghouat, El Bayadh, Naama, and Bechar. Residents in these areas should take necessary precautions to protect themselves from the low temperatures.
