DZWatch Exclusive: The Ministry of Religious Affairs and Endowments has announced the date for observing the crescent moon of Ramadan for the year 1447 Hijri, corresponding to 2026 Gregorian.
According to a statement released by the Ministry, the first day of Sha’ban 1447 AH will be Tuesday, January 20, 2026. This marks an important step in the anticipation of the holy month of Ramadan.
The Ministry further clarified that the ‘Night of Doubt’ (Laylat al-Shak), the evening when the Ramadan crescent will be sought, is scheduled for Tuesday, February 17, 2026, which corresponds to the 29th of Sha’ban 1447 AH.
Astronomical calculations and observations will be carefully considered on this night to determine the official start of Ramadan. The announcement from the Ministry allows citizens and religious organizations to prepare for this significant event in the Islamic calendar.
