Algeria Enlists Huawei’s Expertise to Accelerate Energy Transition

Algeria is looking to leverage the technological prowess of Chinese giant Huawei to expedite its national energy transition program. The Minister of Energy and Renewable Energies, Mourad Adjal, recently hosted a high-level delegation from Huawei, led by Li Xin, the company’s President for the North, West, and Central Africa region, at the ministry’s headquarters.

The discussions centered around integrating Huawei’s cutting-edge digital solutions and smart technologies into Algeria’s renewable energy sector. Minister Adjal emphasized Algeria’s commitment to foreign investment that prioritizes knowledge transfer and skills development, particularly within the context of the country’s evolving economic landscape. He also acknowledged the strong reputation Chinese companies have established in Algeria for successfully executing large-scale projects.

Li Xin expressed Huawei’s strong desire to play an active role in supporting Algeria’s technological advancement in the energy sector. He highlighted the company’s commitment to ensuring a smooth and efficient implementation of the energy transition program. Furthermore, Li Xin lauded the golden opportunities that the Algerian market currently offers to international investors.

Following the meeting, both parties agreed to convene a high-level technical meeting comprising ministry experts and Huawei specialists. The purpose of this meeting is to thoroughly examine Huawei’s proposals and identify priority areas for collaboration. This upcoming meeting aims to establish a clear legal and technical framework for concrete cooperative projects that will contribute to the digitization of Algeria’s national energy system. The collaboration marks a significant step towards modernizing Algeria’s energy infrastructure and achieving its renewable energy goals.
