Turkey, Qatar, Jordan Welcome Syria-SDF Ceasefire Agreement

Ankara, Doha, and Amman have all expressed their support for the ceasefire agreement signed between the Syrian government and the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF). The agreement, which aims to halt hostilities and integrate the SDF into the Syrian army, follows intense clashes along the Euphrates River in recent days.

The Turkish Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated its hope that the agreement would contribute to the stabilization of Syria, based on the principles of territorial integrity and the security and well-being of the Syrian people and neighboring countries. “We hope it has become clear that Syria’s future lies in unity and integration, not terrorism and division,” the ministry added.

Qatar’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs described the ceasefire and integration agreement as “an important step towards consolidating civil peace, enhancing security and stability, and building a state of institutions and law.” The Ministry emphasized that Syria’s stability and prosperity require the state to have a monopoly on weapons within a unified army that represents all Syrian components.

Similarly, the Jordanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs hailed the agreement as “an important step towards strengthening Syria’s unity, stability, and security.” Ministry spokesperson Fuad al-Majali stated that Jordan supports Syria’s security, stability, sovereignty, territorial integrity, and the safety of its citizens.

The agreement stipulates a comprehensive and immediate ceasefire on all fronts between Syrian government forces and the SDF. It also includes the withdrawal of all SDF military formations to the east of the Euphrates River as a preliminary step for redeployment.

The US Envoy to Syria has also welcomed the agreement, describing it as a “pivotal turning point” where former adversaries are moving towards partnership instead of division.
