Over 1.5 Million Algerians Benefit from Solidarity Grant

Algiers, January 19, 2026 – The Algerian Ministry of National Solidarity, Family and Women’s Issues announced that over 1.5 million citizens are currently benefiting from the Solidarity Grant program. Minister Souria Mouloudji revealed the figures, stating that 1,447,268 individuals directly receive the grant, with an additional 400,000 people benefiting under guardianship provisions.

The announcement coincided with the launch of electronic cards for accessing medications for uninsured and impoverished individuals. The launch ceremony, held at the Social Security Family Center in Ben Aknoun, was attended by Minister Mouloudji and the Minister of Labor, Employment, and Social Security, Abdelhak Saihi.

Minister Mouloudji emphasized the Ministry’s commitment to providing comprehensive support to vulnerable populations. This includes direct financial assistance to families and individuals with no income or those physically unable to work. She highlighted the Solidarity Grant as a crucial mechanism for ensuring social coverage, particularly for individuals with special needs.

“The Ministry works throughout the year to support vulnerable groups in accessing aid and assistance, in coordination with various partners and stakeholders at the local level,” stated Minister Mouloudji. She outlined various sectoral programs, including community development projects, public utility projects with intensive labor use, family production programs, and economic empowerment initiatives for rural women and homemakers.

The Minister also noted the integration of school grants into the Solidarity sector’s programs, following a June 2025 executive decree, benefiting approximately three million students.

It is worth noting that Prime Minister Sifi Grib signed Executive Decree No. 25-307 last November, amending and supplementing Executive Decree No. 24-325 of October 1, 2024, which defines the beneficiary categories and conditions for receiving the Solidarity Grant. The amendment, specifically to Article 2 and the provisions of Articles 5 and 19, adds residency in Algeria as a requirement for eligibility, alongside the condition that the applicant or their spouse does not have any income.
