The Algerian national team, Les Fennecs, have surged in the global rankings following their impressive performance at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations. A string of victories propelled the Desert Warriors six places higher, securing them the 28th spot worldwide and fourth place on the African continent.
This significant climb marks a remarkable recovery after the team had previously fallen to 46th place in the global rankings last September. The recent success is attributed to the team’s consistent positive results throughout the tournament.
Algeria advanced to the quarter-finals of the 2025 AFCON, dominating Group E with a perfect record of 9 points after securing three victories. They then triumphed over Congo in the quarter-final with a 1-0 victory, before being eliminated by Nigeria with a score of 2-0.
Algeria’s highest-ever ranking was achieved in 2014, when they reached 15th place globally following their notable participation in the World Cup. Conversely, their lowest ranking occurred in 2008, when they plummeted to 103rd place in the world.
This resurgence in the rankings reflects the hard work and dedication of the team and the coaching staff. Algerian fans are hopeful that Les Fennecs can continue this positive momentum and achieve even greater success in future competitions. The team’s performance at AFCON 2025 has undoubtedly reignited national pride and solidified Algeria’s position as a force to be reckoned with in African football.
