Algiers, January 20, 2026 – A comprehensive glossary of trade and economic terms has been officially launched in Algeria, aiming to streamline communication and enhance transparency within the sector. The launch ceremony was overseen by the Minister of Foreign Trade and Export Promotion, Kamal Rezig, the Minister of Internal Trade and Regulation of the National Market, Amel Abdelatif, and the President of the Higher Council of the Arabic Language, Saleh Belaid.
The glossary, a collaborative effort between the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Export Promotion, the Ministry of Internal Trade and Regulation of the National Market, and the Higher Council of the Arabic Language, is a trilingual resource (Arabic, French, and English). It contains over 1450 terms commonly used in various fields of trade and economics, accompanied by clear explanations and relevant administrative documents.
Minister Rezig hailed the glossary as a significant step towards modernizing the trade system and promoting transparency in commercial transactions. He emphasized that it will contribute to standardizing terminology, ensuring the use of clear, simple, and accurate language accessible to all stakeholders in the sector. He urged professionals to use the glossary as a practical and linguistic reference and to promote its wider adoption among researchers, students, and economic operators.
Minister Abdelatif highlighted the importance of the glossary, stating that it is not merely a linguistic tool but a practical instrument for enhancing coordination between different bodies, facilitating communication between economic operators, and improving the quality of economic and commercial discourse. The glossary addresses the challenges arising from inconsistent use of technical terms, which can lead to issues in interpreting legal texts, applying regulatory rules, and processing files for economic operators. It is also expected to have a direct impact on the effectiveness of oversight, consumer protection, and market regulation.
Saleh Belaid added that the glossary is the result of continuous scientific work, building on the Council’s previous achievements in developing functional guides and drawing on established references in the trade sector. The project followed a rigorous methodology adopted by a specialized committee, supported by continuous monitoring and evaluation mechanisms.
