Algeria and Qatar Discuss Enhanced Environmental Cooperation

Algiers, January 20, 2026 – Minister of Environment and Quality of Life, Kawthar Krikou, today received Qatari Minister of Environment and Climate Change, Abdullah bin Abdulaziz bin Turki Al-Subaie, at the ministry headquarters in Algiers. The Qatari Minister was accompanied by a high-level delegation.

The meeting served as an opportunity to discuss prospects for strengthening bilateral cooperation between Algeria and Qatar, particularly in the critical areas of environmental protection and addressing the challenges posed by climate change. Discussions also focused on exchanging expertise and experiences related to promoting sustainable development pathways.

Minister Krikou highlighted Algeria’s commitment to environmental stewardship and sustainable practices. The meeting included presentations showcasing Algeria’s rich biodiversity and efforts to mitigate the impacts of climate change. A video presentation on the Green Dam project, a significant initiative aimed at combating desertification, was also featured.

The Qatari Minister expressed his gratitude for the warm reception and hospitality extended by the Algerian government. He also conveyed his admiration for the significant attention that Algerian authorities are giving to the environmental sector. Both ministers reaffirmed their commitment to fostering closer collaboration on environmental issues of mutual concern.
