Heavy Snowfall and Thunderstorms Hit Several Algerian Provinces

Several regions of Algeria are experiencing severe weather conditions, including heavy snowfall and intense thunderstorms, according to a recent weather bulletin. The affected provinces are under alert as the adverse conditions are expected to persist throughout the day.

The weather advisory indicates that rainfall amounts are expected to range between 30 and 50 millimeters, with the possibility of exceeding 60 millimeters in certain areas. Provinces particularly affected by this heavy rainfall include Bejaia, Jijel, Skikda, Annaba, El Tarf, Setif, Bordj Bou Arreridj, Mila, Constantine, Guelma, Souk Ahras, Khenchela, Oum El Bouaghi, Tebessa, and Batna. This alert remains valid until 6 PM.

Furthermore, provinces such as Algiers, Boumerdes, Tizi Ouzou, Bouira, M’Sila, Djelfa, Laghouat, Saida, and Mascara are also bracing for heavy thunderstorms, with rainfall expected to reach similar levels, potentially exceeding 60 millimeters in some locations. This particular alert is in effect until 9 PM.

A separate, more severe warning has been issued for Mostaganem, Chlef, Tipaza, Relizane, the western part of Tiaret, Ain Defla, Tissemsilt, Medea, and Blida. These provinces are anticipated to receive exceptionally heavy rainfall, ranging from 80 to 100 millimeters, with the possibility of exceeding 120 millimeters. This heightened alert is valid until midday.

In addition to the rainfall, heavy snowfall is expected in areas above 1200 meters in altitude. Snow accumulation is predicted to range between 5 and 10 centimeters in the provinces of Batna, Tebessa, and Khenchela. This snowfall advisory is also in effect until midday.

Strong winds are also a concern, with gusts expected to reach speeds of 60 to 70 kilometers per hour, potentially reaching 80 kilometers per hour in the provinces of Ouled Djellal, M’Sila, and Tiaret. This wind advisory is valid until midday. Residents in the affected areas are advised to take necessary precautions and stay informed about the evolving weather conditions.
