Civil Defense Responds to Weather-Related Incidents Across Algeria

Algeria’s Civil Defense Directorate has reported widespread interventions across several provinces following recent adverse weather conditions. Teams have been actively working to ensure public safety and mitigate potential damage.

In Bouira, emergency responders successfully extracted a vehicle trapped in floodwaters in the municipality of Aghbalou. They also transported an individual experiencing a hyperglycemic episode to a local clinic.

Heavy rainfall in Relizane disrupted the lives of numerous residents. Civil Defense personnel rescued five people from a residence in Douar El-Marainia, Belassel Bouzegza municipality, and another seven individuals who were trapped inside a building in Residence Djaafar, Ghilizane municipality.

The province of Blida witnessed several incidents, including a partial roof collapse in a house in the Douirat district, although no injuries were reported. Rescue teams also assisted two people trapped in a car in the Safsaf district. Additionally, a partial roof collapse occurred in a house in the Beni Mouimen district, and accumulated rainwater was drained from affected areas.

In Algiers, Civil Defense units were deployed to pump out rainwater from various buildings in Douira and Khelitoussa. A pine tree fell onto power lines in Bir Touta, but thankfully, no casualties resulted.

Other interventions were carried out in the provinces of El Tarf, Medea, Bejaia, Chlef, and Tiaret. These operations included draining accumulated rainwater, assisting and evacuating residents, and addressing fallen trees and walls caused by heavy rainfall. Authorities have confirmed that, in the majority of cases, no injuries or fatalities have been reported.

Civil Defense services are continuing to monitor the weather situation closely and remain prepared to respond swiftly to ensure the safety of citizens and property throughout the country.
