The Algerian People’s National Army (ANP) has released its operational report for the period of January 14th to 20th, 2026, detailing significant successes in counter-terrorism, the fight against organized crime, and efforts to curb illegal immigration. The report highlights the military’s readiness to address various security threats across the country.
Counter-Terrorism Operations
As part of ongoing efforts to eliminate remnants of terrorist groups, ANP detachments successfully apprehended ten individuals providing support to these groups. These arrests were made during separate operations conducted in various regions of Algeria.
Combating Organized Crime
In the fight against organized crime, army units arrested 46 drug traffickers. They also thwarted attempts to smuggle 765 kilograms of treated cannabis across the western border with Morocco and seized 282,909 psychotropic tablets. In the southern regions, specifically in Tamanrasset, Bordj Badji Mokhtar, In Salah, In Guezzam, and Illizi, 254 individuals were apprehended. Authorities also seized 25 vehicles, 310 generators, 217 pressure hammers, and 39 metal detectors. In addition, they confiscated quantities of raw gold mixture, stones, and equipment used in illegal gold mining.
Further operations led to the arrest of 13 individuals and the seizure of a Kalashnikov assault rifle, two hunting rifles, and 8,580 liters of fuel. Moreover, 17 tons of tobacco and 62 tons of food intended for smuggling and speculation were confiscated.
Stemming Illegal Immigration
In securing national coastlines, coast guard units successfully foiled illegal immigration attempts, rescuing 180 individuals aboard makeshift boats. Additionally, 527 illegal immigrants of various nationalities were apprehended across the country.
The Ministry of National Defense has stated that this weekly report underscores the ANP’s commitment to continue its relentless efforts to protect the security and stability of the country, resolutely confronting all forms of threats to national safety.
