Algiers, January 21, 2026 – Algeria and Chad are deepening their collaboration in the cement industry, signaling a new phase of economic partnership between the two nations. Minister of Industry, Yahia Bachir, held a working session with his Chadian counterpart, Mathieu Guibolo Fanga, Minister of Trade and Industry, to explore avenues for enhanced cooperation.
The meeting, attended by the Algerian Ambassador to Chad, Faisal Jaouti, and the CEO of the Algerian Cement Industries Group (GICA), Rabah Guessoum, follows a preliminary meeting held in Algiers last December. Discussions centered on strategies to develop Chad’s cement industry, considering both medium-term industrial projects and immediate solutions to address the gap between cement consumption and development needs.
Key areas of discussion included the potential establishment of clinker grinding units in Chad. These units would be supported by Algerian expertise and supplied with raw materials from Algeria, aiming to meet the demands of the Chadian market and foster local cement sector growth. The importance of leveraging Algeria’s experience in cement and building materials production, particularly through GICA, was emphasized. GICA possesses significant production capabilities, skilled workforce, and extensive expertise.
Both parties agreed to establish a memorandum of understanding. This agreement will define the framework for cooperation, facilitating technical discussions and the implementation of joint industrial ventures that serve the mutual interests of Algeria and Chad. The initiative aims to contribute to industrial development in both countries and solidify their economic ties.
