Algeria is being prominently featured as the guest of honor at the International Exhibition of Mines, Quarries, and Hydrocarbons (SIMICA Chad 2026) in N’Djamena. The event, running from January 21st to 23rd, is held under the patronage of the President of Chad, Mahamat Idriss Déby Itno.
Representing President Abdelmadjid Tebboune, the Minister of State, Minister of Hydrocarbons and Mines, Mohamed Arkab, attended the opening ceremony. He was accompanied by a high-level Algerian delegation including the Minister of Industry, Yahia Bechire, and the Minister of Energy and Renewable Energies, Mourad Adjjal, as well as executives from major national corporations such as Sonatrach, Naftal, and GICA.
In a speech delivered on behalf of the President, Minister Arkab emphasized Algeria’s commitment to African cooperation and the strengthening of South-South partnerships. He stated that Algeria’s participation as guest of honor reflects a firm belief that Africa’s future lies in the integration of its people’s capabilities and the sustainable investment of its resources.
“Africa possesses significant natural resources, particularly in hydrocarbons and strategic minerals,” Minister Arkab stated. “The real challenge lies in the sound management, valorization, and transformation of these resources into drivers of economic and social development.” He stressed the importance of creating added value and employment opportunities to meet the aspirations of the African people.
The Minister of State also highlighted the need for good governance in the extractive industries sector, based on transparency, knowledge localization, technology transfer, respect for environmental standards, and the promotion of local content. He further emphasized the encouragement of responsible investments and balanced partnerships that provide mutual benefit.
President Tebboune’s message underscored Algeria’s experience in the hydrocarbons and mining sectors, which is based on national control of resources, the development of value chains, and human capacity building. Minister Arkab affirmed Algeria’s readiness to share its expertise with sister African nations, particularly in the areas of exploration, production, processing, training, and research and development. This participation underscores Algeria’s vision for a stronger and more prosperous Africa through collaborative partnerships.
