Algiers – The Bureau of the Senate has affirmed that the legislative process concerning the traffic law was conducted in full compliance with the Algerian Constitution and existing legal frameworks. The statement, released Thursday, addresses recent media reports questioning the law’s validity.
The Bureau expressed surprise at claims published in the daily newspaper Al-Watan, which quoted unnamed Senate members allegedly rejecting the traffic law. The Senate Bureau maintains that the legislative procedure adhered strictly to constitutional and legal requirements.
“Following a thorough review, the Bureau confirms unequivocally that the procedural path of the traffic law was consistent with all constitutional and legal provisions,” the statement reads. “We are perplexed by the assertions made in Al-Watan, which do not accurately reflect the collective position of the Senate regarding this crucial piece of legislation.”
The traffic law, which aims to modernize road safety regulations and improve traffic flow across the country, has been the subject of intense debate in recent weeks. The Senate Bureau’s statement seeks to clarify the legal standing of the law and address concerns raised in the media.
The statement concluded by reiterating the Senate’s commitment to upholding the Constitution and ensuring the legality of all legislation passed by the Parliament. The Bureau emphasized its dedication to transparent and accountable governance and pledged to continue serving the interests of the Algerian people.
