Education Minister Focuses on Student Well-being, Teacher Hiring

Algiers – Minister of National Education, Mohamed Sghir Saadaoui, chaired a national conference via video conference on Wednesday, January 21, 2026, from the ministry’s headquarters in Algiers. The conference brought together officials from the central administration, education directors, and appointed directors from across the country to address key issues related to the smooth functioning of the educational process.

The Minister emphasized the importance of daily monitoring of educational institutions, particularly in regions experiencing adverse weather conditions. He urged increased field visits to verify the readiness of schools, focusing on heating and repair work related to weatherproofing. He stated that decisions regarding student attendance or exemptions should be based on accurate data and in coordination with relevant sectors, especially the Ministry of Interior, Local Authorities, and Transportation. Enhanced local coordination is also crucial to ensure school transportation and the continuity of hot meals, particularly in remote areas.

Regarding the teacher recruitment examination, the Minister called on education directors to personally supervise the file review committees and monitor information released about the examination to avoid any conflicting details. He reiterated that a doctoral degree is not considered supplementary training according to public service regulations, warning against inaccurate announcements that could lead to inconsistencies in treatment across different regions.

Saadaoui clarified that the pre-integration training period has been shortened, with a focus on quality, to ensure that its objectives are achieved within the specified timeframe. This will enable those concerned to benefit from the advantages associated with the new ranks. He called for providing appropriate organizational and pedagogical conditions to ensure the success of the process.

The Minister also cautioned against the dangers of fake pages impersonating education directorates, directing officials to expedite the verification of official pages to ensure the credibility of published information and protect followers from misleading news. He stressed the need for verified official channels to combat misinformation.

In closing, the Minister of Education called for the conclusion of regional partnership agreements to support the educational sector. These partnerships aim to enhance the quality of education and provide additional resources for schools and students.
