A high-level ministerial delegation, accompanied by local authorities, undertook a test journey by train on Friday from the Tindouf station to the Gara Djebilet station. This initiative is part of ongoing efforts to monitor the readiness of the western mining railway line connecting Bechar, Tindouf, and Gara Djebilet.
The ministerial delegation commenced its visit with an inspection of the Tindouf train station. The purpose was to assess firsthand the progress of the works and the level of technical and logistical preparedness of this strategic project. The delegation included key government figures, namely the Minister of State, Minister of Hydrocarbons and Mines, Mohamed Arkab, the Minister of Interior, Local Authorities and Transport, Said Saayoud, and the Minister of Public Works and Basic Infrastructure, Abdelkader Djellaoui.
Also participating were the Minister of Tourism, Houria Meddahi, and the Secretary of State to the Minister of Hydrocarbons and Mines in charge of Mines, Karima Bekir Tafer. The Director General of National Security, Ali Badaoui, and the Director General of Civil Protection, Colonel Boualem Bouglaf, were also present.
The ministerial delegation was received by local authorities of the Tindouf province, led by the Wali of Tindouf, Dahou Mustapha, along with local and security officials. The visit underscores the government’s commitment to ensuring the timely and efficient completion of the Gara Djebilet mining project, a crucial component of the nation’s economic development strategy.
The Gara Djebilet iron ore mine represents a significant opportunity for Algeria to diversify its economy and reduce its reliance on hydrocarbons. The railway line is essential for transporting the extracted ore to processing facilities and export markets.
This project is expected to create numerous jobs and stimulate economic growth in the region. Further updates on the progress of the mining railway line and the Gara Djebilet project will be provided as they become available.
