Algiers – Recent adverse weather conditions have caused significant disruptions to road traffic in several provinces across Algeria. Heavy snowfall and torrential rains have led to the closure of vital road arteries, according to reports from the National Gendarmerie.
In mountainous regions, traffic has come to a complete standstill on National Road 33, which connects Tizi Ouzou and Bouira. The section passing through the Asoul area in the municipality of Ait Boumahdi is impassable. Similarly, the Ikoukar section in the municipality of Bechloul (Bouira province) has been shut down due to heavy snow accumulation.
In central and western Algeria, overflowing rivers have been the primary cause of travel delays. In Djelfa, traffic on National Road 01A, which connects to Laghouat, has been suspended at the Oued El Meit bridge in the municipality of Hassi Bahbah due to rising water levels.
Blida province has also experienced road closures, with Wilaya Road 110, linking Blida to Tipaza, blocked at the Ben Hamdani center in the municipality of Ben Khelil due to flooding. Further west, authorities have announced the closure of National Road 22 between the municipalities of Tirni and Sebdou in Tlemcen province, near the village of Tel Tirni. In Ghilizane, flooding has severed Wilaya Road 52, which leads to Mostaganem, at the Douar Es-Salhia level in the municipality of Beni Zentis.
The National Gendarmerie urges all road users to exercise extreme caution, postpone non-essential travel, and stay informed about weather updates and road conditions through official channels until weather conditions improve.
