Constitution, Election Law Revisions Discussed at Algiers Forum

Algiers – A significant political forum convened today at the Palais des Nations, focusing on proposed technical amendments to the Constitution and the organic law related to the electoral system. The event, held under the auspices of the Director of the Presidential Cabinet, Boualem Boualem, and in the presence of Prime Minister Sifi Gherib, follows a mandate from President Abdelmadjid Tebboune.

The forum featured extensive discussions involving key figures, including the acting head of the National Independent Elections Authority, Karim Khalfan, the Minister of Interior, Local Authorities, and Transportation, Said Saayoud, and the Minister of Justice and Keeper of the Seals, Lotfi Boujemaa. Several advisors to the President and representatives from 12 political parties also participated.

Deliberations centered on the technical aspects of the proposed amendments, with a particular emphasis on enhancing transparency and reinforcing the integrity of the electoral process. Participants explored modernizing the constitutional framework to align with current needs and challenges. The discussions underscored the importance of a fair and transparent electoral system.

This initiative reflects President Tebboune’s commitment to fostering dialogue and consultation with various political stakeholders. It aims to strengthen the democratic process, reinforce the rule of law and institutions, and establish a political practice based on consensus and responsibility.
