Constitutional Amendment Part of Institutional Building: PM

The proposed technical amendment to the Constitution is part of the ongoing effort to complete institutional construction, five years after the 2020 Constitution, stated Prime Minister Sifi Ghrib.

Speaking at the opening of a conference on the draft technical amendment to the Constitution and the organic law related to the electoral system, held at the Palace of Nations on Saturday, the Prime Minister emphasized that the 2020 Constitution was a historic initiative, a national achievement, and a fundamental pillar for strengthening the democratic process.

“The 2020 constitutional reforms enshrined the rule of law and strengthened state institutions,” Ghrib said, noting that “the Constitution guarantees freedoms and rights and enhances political dynamism and the role of civil society.”

The Prime Minister highlighted that the technical amendments to the Constitution embody the state’s firm commitment to continuing to strengthen the democratic process, consolidate the rule of law on solid foundations, and continuously and successfully develop the legal system.

Furthermore, he revealed that “the material and logistical aspects of the elections have been assigned to the Ministry of Interior, ensuring all necessary means, and enabling the National Independent Authority for Elections to exercise its supervisory and monitoring functions in accordance with the Constitution.”

He added that “the success of the reforms depends on the involvement of all actors, including institutions, parties, civil society, and the media, with a call for a responsible and positive dialogue that serves the supreme national interest.”

The Prime Minister reaffirmed the government’s commitment to continuing the reform approach and engaging positively with the proposed amendments. He stressed the importance of national unity in achieving these goals.

The government is dedicated to a transparent and inclusive process.
