The Algerian Ministry of Foreign Affairs summoned the Chargé d’affaires of the French Embassy in Algiers on Saturday to express strong condemnation regarding a program aired on French public television channel, France 2.
According to a statement released by the Ministry, the program, presented as a documentary, is considered a fabrication filled with falsehoods and baseless allegations. The Ministry views the broadcast as a profound insult and an unwarranted provocation against Algeria.
During the meeting, the French diplomat was informed of the Algerian government’s grave concerns regarding several aspects of the situation. Firstly, the Ministry emphasized the responsibility of a French public service broadcaster in what it described as a blatant attack on the Algerian state, its institutions, and its symbols. The Ministry suggested that such an attack could not have occurred without the complicity, or at the very least, the approval of the supervisory public authorities.
Secondly, the Algerian government highlighted the perceived impropriety of the French Embassy in Algiers, and the Ambassador personally, participating in the promotion of what it considers a defamatory campaign led by the public television channel. This involvement, according to the Ministry, reinforces the impression that the campaign has the endorsement of official French entities.
Thirdly, the Ministry stated that the actions of the French channel represent a new escalation in practices hostile to Algeria, practices allegedly overseen by official French circles with the aim of maintaining Algerian-French relations in a state of perpetual tension.
The Algerian government vehemently condemned the program and its unacceptable accusations and insults against the Algerian state and its institutions. It also expressed strong disapproval of the French Ambassador’s alleged involvement in actions that are seen as clearly conflicting with the proper execution of his duties, as defined by international laws and customs.
The French diplomat was informed that the Algerian government reserves the right to take all necessary measures in response to the gravity of these actions. The situation remains tense as Algeria awaits a response from the French government. Further updates will be provided as they become available.
