Venezuelans Rally for Maduro’s Release Amid US Detention

Thousands of demonstrators flooded the streets of Caracas, Venezuela, demanding the release of President Nicolas Maduro, who is currently detained in the United States. Protesters decried his detention as unjust and unlawful, asserting Venezuela’s sovereignty over its natural resources.

The demonstrators carried large banners proclaiming, “We want them back,” referring to Maduro and his wife, Cilia Flores. They emphasized their unwavering commitment to their nation’s right to its oil wealth, condemning what they described as attempts by the U.S. to control Venezuela’s petroleum reserves.

The protests coincided with the anniversary of the fall of the military dictatorship in 1958. Participants stressed that the United States must pay a fair price for Venezuelan oil, reinforcing Venezuela’s sovereignty and national rights.

During a televised address, Interior Minister Diosdado Cabello stated, “Our greatest victory these days will be the return of President Maduro and his wife, Cilia.”

Cabello also noted that interim President Delcy Rodriguez, who has sought rapprochement with the U.S. administration, has the full support of the ruling party. “We are all working together to manage the affairs of the country,” he said.

The situation remains tense as Venezuela navigates this complex political landscape. The calls for Maduro’s release continue to grow louder both domestically and internationally.
