Political Parties Laud Constitution, Election Law Amendments

Algiers – Algerian political parties have expressed their satisfaction with the outcomes of the national conference dedicated to discussing the proposed technical amendments to the Constitution and the organic law pertaining to the electoral system.

Leaders of participating parties emphasized that the conference, held at the Palais des Nations in Algiers, is poised to solidify a culture of dialogue and consultation, further bolstering the democratic process in the country.

Abdelkrim Benmbarek, Secretary-General of the National Liberation Front (FLN), described the conference as characterized by “candor.” He added, “The conference embodied President Abdelmadjid Tebboune’s commitment to entrenching a culture of continuous dialogue and consultation, and to strengthen political partnership.” Benmbarek further stated that his party had presented “several proposals that take into account the requirements of the upcoming stage,” and praised the “sense of responsibility demonstrated by the various political formations participating in the conference.”

Similarly, Moundhir Boudinar, Secretary-General of the National Democratic Rally (RND), commended the “courage of state institutions in opening the door to dialogue,” linking this to “addressing the shortcomings and observations that emerged during the implementation of the 2020 Constitution.” Boudinar highlighted the “fruitful” discussions between public authorities and political parties, noting that his party had listened attentively to the proposals regarding the technical amendment of the Constitution and the electoral law, describing them as “logical.”

Fateh Boutbig, head of the El Moustakbal Front, viewed the meeting as an embodiment of the “reforms being undertaken by the President of the Republic.” He added, “The step embodies the President’s commitment to involving political parties in drafting laws related to political life.” Boutbig pointed out that the proposed points are “important and do not affect the essence of the Constitution.”

Abdelkader Bengrina, head of the National Construction Movement, asserted that “the conference refuted the lies that some mouthpieces are trying to promote about Algeria.” He noted that “the meeting brought together Algerians, whether they were representatives of public authorities or political parties from various spectrums.”

Djamel Ben Abdeslam, head of the New Algeria Front, praised the outcomes, stating that they “establish traditions of partnership between parties and authorities,” and viewed the amendments presented on the two projects as “timely and necessary.” Likewise, Abdelali Hassani Cherif, head of the Movement of Society for Peace (MSP), considered the conference an opportunity to “move towards a profound political reform,” envisioning that this reform will contribute to strengthening stability and serving the interests of the nation in this sensitive circumstance that the country is going through.
