Minneapolis Governor Demands Federal Withdrawal After Shooting

Tensions are escalating in Minneapolis following the fatal shooting of a 37-year-old man by federal agents from Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). The incident has sparked widespread protests, adding to the city’s unrest after a separate shooting earlier this month.

President Trump has accused Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey and Minnesota Governor Tim Walz, both Democrats, of “inciting insurrection” amidst the growing turmoil. In a post on his social media platform, Trump asserted that the victim was armed with a loaded weapon and additional magazines, suggesting that ICE agents were forced to act in self-defense. He further claimed that local police were being prevented from fulfilling their duties.

Governor Walz, however, has called for an immediate end to the federal operation in Minnesota and the withdrawal of what he described as thousands of “violent and untrained” officers. He stated that he contacted the White House after what he termed a “tragic” shooting.

DZWatch has learned that the Minneapolis Police Chief stated that multiple federal agents were believed to be involved in the shooting. The situation has prompted Governor Walz to activate the National Guard in response to requests from local authorities.

Thousands of protestors took to the streets on Friday, demonstrating against the Trump administration’s immigration policies and demanding the withdrawal of federal forces. The protests occurred despite the cold weather conditions. The growing divide between state and federal authorities is adding fuel to an already volatile situation in Minneapolis. The situation remains fluid, and DZWatch will continue to provide updates as they become available.
