Severe Weather Alert: Heavy Rains and Strong Winds Across Algeria

January 26, 2026 – Several Algerian provinces are experiencing heavy rainfall and strong winds today, according to the National Meteorological Office. A weather alert has been issued for multiple regions, warning residents to take necessary precautions.

The alert indicates significant thunderstorms with rainfall amounts ranging from 40 to 50 millimeters are expected until midday in the provinces of Mostaganem, Chlef, Mascara, Relizane, Tiaret, Tissemsilt, Ain Defla, Tipaza, Algiers, Boumerdes, Blida, Medea, and Bouira. Residents in these areas should anticipate potential flooding and disruptions to daily activities.

Furthermore, the meteorological services predict continued thunderstorms in the provinces of Tizi Ouzou, Bejaia, Jijel, Skikda, Annaba, El Tarf, Setif, Guelma, and Souk Ahras, with rainfall exceeding 50 millimeters until 11:00 PM tonight. Similar conditions are anticipated in Batna, Oum El Bouaghi, Constantine, Mila, and Bordj Bou Arreridj until midday.

In addition to the heavy rainfall, strong winds are expected to persist until 3:00 PM today. Wind speeds exceeding 90 kilometers per hour are forecast for the provinces of Tlemcen, Sidi Bel Abbes, Saida, Tiaret, Naama, El Bayadh, Laghouat, Djelfa, M’Sila, Ouled Djellal, Ain Temouchent, Oran, Mostaganem, Mascara, Relizane, Chlef, Tipaza, Algiers, Boumerdes, Tizi Ouzou, Bejaia, Jijel, Skikda, Annaba, and El Tarf. These strong winds could pose a threat to infrastructure and create hazardous driving conditions.
