Minister of Communication Zouheir Bouamama stated that Algeria has been subjected for years to condemned campaigns by known parties aiming to misappropriate national heritage and the creative output of its citizens in various fields of art and culture, noting that these attempts have extended to the sports sector.
During a speech on Tuesday at a study day titled “Respecting Copyright as a Pillar of Modern Media” held at the ministry’s headquarters, the minister indicated that these practices were not confined to the cultural sector. He emphasized that this “piracy” has reached the level of attempting to misappropriate championships and sports competitions.
In this regard, Bouamama stressed the need to support the national team, continue encouraging it, and follow its preparations for major tournaments, primarily the 2026 World Cup.
He added: “This tournament is expected to be conducted within a framework of fair and honest competition, unlike the despicable practices we recently witnessed that harmed the African continent and the tournament itself.”
