First Iron Ore Shipment from Gara Djebilet Arrives in Oran

Prime Minister Seifi Gharib arrived in Oran on Monday, commissioned by President Abdelmadjid Tebboune, to oversee the arrival and unloading of the first shipments of iron ore extracted from the Gara Djebilet mine. The shipment is destined for the Tosyali iron and steel complex as part of the official celebrations for the commissioning of the Gara Djebilet–Tindouf–Bechar Western Mining Line.

During the visit, the Prime Minister reviewed detailed technical presentations on the complex’s production operations. These presentations covered the entire process, from the reception and unloading of iron ore through various processing stages to the final production. The focus remained on workflow regularity, procedural efficiency, and operational smoothness to ensure compliance with technical and industrial standards and high-quality output.

The Prime Minister also conducted a field visit to the pelletizing, smelting, and rolling units to directly monitor operations and assess the efficiency of the production chain at all stages.

The ceremony was attended by a high-level ministerial delegation, members of Parliament, representatives of local, civil, and military authorities, as well as civil society representatives and senior guests.

This initiative follows the President’s instructions to implement the national strategy for diversifying the economy beyond hydrocarbons and establishing new resources for sustainable economic development.

The strategic project serves as a fundamental pillar for utilizing national mining resources and strengthening the iron and steel industry. It aims to support economic diversification, develop transport infrastructure, stimulate industrial investment, and create jobs, positioning the mining sector as a key driver of national economic growth for future generations.
