First Major Electronic Gaming Event to be Organized in Algeria

The Minister of Post and Telecommunications, Sid Ali Zerrouki, chaired a consultative meeting with representatives of the electronic gaming community in Algeria, including startups, independent game developers, active associations, content creators, professional players, and world champions in various games.

The meeting also included representatives from telecommunications operators to facilitate direct dialogue and discussion with key actors in the field. During the session, the Minister announced the organization of the first major national event dedicated to electronic games, named “Fiber Game,” scheduled for this year. This event is intended to become a regular gathering for various stakeholders in the gaming ecosystem and a platform to promote innovation, competition, and the development of a local industry capable of competing internationally, while attracting global companies to establish their activities in Algeria.

The Minister also announced that Algérie Télécom will update its “Fiber Gamers” offer starting Thursday, February 5. This update aims to provide fiber optic users with an enhanced experience in terms of speed and service quality, reducing latency (Ping) to meet the performance levels required by gamers.

It is noteworthy that the gaming industry’s revenue in Africa is estimated at approximately $1.8 billion in 2024, with over 350 million players. The market size is expected to exceed $3.5 to $4 billion by 2027–2029. By investing in infrastructure, developing local studios, and supporting e-sports, Algeria aims to capture a 10% share of the African gaming market by 2028, equivalent to approximately $400 million.
