15 people die in Greece

At least 15 people died on Tuesday in a collision between a Greek Coast Guard vessel and a boat carrying migrants off the coast of Chios Island, according to Greek authorities.

Public broadcasting reports indicated that 25 people were transported to the island’s hospital, including 11 children and two coast guard officers.

The incident reportedly occurred after a coast guard patrol boat intercepted the vessel and ordered it to change course, leading to a collision between the two boats under circumstances that remain unclear, causing several people to fall into the sea.

Regional Deputy Governor Pantelis Vroulis told Greek television that 15 bodies have been recovered so far, all of whom were migrants.

The Coast Guard stated that the total number of people on board the speedboat was not immediately clear, and a search and rescue operation is ongoing to find any missing persons.
