International Union of Railways Praises “Project of the Century”

The International Union of Railways (UIC) has welcomed the inauguration of the 950-kilometer Bechar-Tindouf-Gara Djebilet railway line. The UIC stated that the launch of this project demonstrates the reliance of major industrial players on rail transport as part of a comprehensive and environmentally friendly development strategy.

The union added that the rapid progress of the project highlights once again what can be achieved when all stakeholders work effectively together toward a shared vision.

The Bechar-Tindouf-Gara Djebilet railway passes over the longest viaduct in Africa, spanning 4.111 kilometers over the Wadi Daoura riverbed. With an axle load capacity of 32.5 tons, the line enables the transport of large quantities of freight in addition to passengers.

The International Union of Railways also expressed its gratitude to the Algerian National Agency for the Study and Follow-up of Railway Investment Projects (ANESRIF), a member of the organization, for this significant achievement.
