Creation of the “Emir Abdelkader Documentary Collection”

The Minister of Culture and Arts, Malika Bendouda, presided over the “Emir Abdelkader Prize” ceremony yesterday evening at the Moufdi Zakaria Palace of Culture in the capital. The event was held as part of the celebrations marking the anniversary of the pledge of allegiance to the founder of the modern Algerian state.

The event began with a historical exhibition dedicated to the life of Emir Abdelkader. The Minister toured a book fair featuring significant works about his personality, as well as a photography exhibition documenting the stages of his struggle and his efforts in state-building. This marked the beginning of the official ceremony, which combined academic depth with artistic expression.

In her speech, Minister Bendouda emphasized that selecting this historic date for the award confirms that the Emir was not only a resistance leader but also the architect of the concept of the state and sovereignty. She noted that his experience, which blended knowledge with courage, holds exceptional relevance today in light of global transformations.

The Minister of Culture also announced a significant decision to establish the “Emir Abdelkader Documentary Collection” at the National Library of Algeria. This collection is intended to serve as an institutional reference for future generations.
